Spring Market

15:00 Unknown 0 Comments

My favourite season is spring. One, because it's my birthday season (hehe not biased at all) and two, because CM Market opens up! The CM Market is a mini pop-up market that's located right in front the Club Monaco on Bloor Street West. This year's featured stores are Sweet Woodruff, Sam James Coffee Bar, The Pop Stand, Evolution Food Co., Bake Shoppe, and Delica Kitchen. So many goodies!

In this outfit, I'm wearing lace-up ballet flats from Steve Madden, paired with my ripped boyfriend jeans from One Teaspoon. Lace-up shoes have become so popular, and as much as I love lace-up heels, I can't wear those for more than a few hours so these lace-up flats are my go-to shoes for this spring! They're so so cute and give a bit of a feminine touch to any kind of outfit.

I'm a sucker for flowers. I love how they smell, and they brighten up any room. Flowers are hands-down the best home decor! I saw these beautiful white carnations from the Sweet Woodruff stand and just had to get myself some.

The greatest thing about this market, for me at least, is that it's on the way from school to home. What better way to treat yourself after class than with some deliciously healthy salad, a refreshing popsicle, and a latte<3

Bringing those sunnies out! The market is the best place to be on a nice sunny day. Instead of indoor cafes, I've been studying out here these past few days! A great way to soak in the sun and get fresh air while you do work.

If you've been here before, let me know what your favourite food items were! I have yet to try everything ;) And if you haven't, well you need to give it a visit! And say hi to me if you see me, because I know I'll be there quite a bit!

SHAKE WELL!

Claims from Laura Mercier:
"A long-wear, oil-free foundation that magically blurs the line between real skin and makeupThis revolutionary bi-phase, two part formula is designed to deliver the most natural looking colour and lightweight coverage. Colour true pigments rest at the bottom of the package while reflective waters (Hydro-Brilliant Technology) float to the top. Vigorously shaking the package before each use ensures the pigments blend with the reflective waters to create fresh colour every time.
Long-wear (12 hours). Humidity-proof, sweat-proof / water resistant. Oil-free; non-comedogenic. Non-greasy; non-drying. Dermatologist tested. Suitable for all skin types (including sensitive skin), especially normal-to-oily skins."

Conclusion:
Laura Mercier's claims of blurring skin and makeup, being natural and lightweight, and being suitable for normal-to-oily-skins are completely spot on! My only complaints were that my dry patches were a bit more noticeable with the makeup, and also that the coverage was not able to cover my acne. However, after reading the claims,it does say that it's suitable for all skin types, but especially for normal - oily skin, meaning that skin with dry patches will be okay with this foundation, but not the best. Additionally, being "natural looking," I could not expect it to be anything more than medium coverage. You are able build it from a light-medium to a heavier medium coverage, but I wouldn't try to build it any further. The recommended application is with fingers, or with a sponge. However, the sponge soaks up all the product (due to its liquidity) and makes it too sheer, and my fingers don't build enough coverage. Instead, I find that using a dense foundation brush gives the most even and build-able application.
The semi-matte finish makes it a great look if you're looking for something everyday, to magically blur your skin without looking cake-y.
Recommend to people with : normal-oily skin, looking for skin-like natural makeup.

Side note: I only wish they also fixed the packaging!!! Please store upside-down to prevent loss of product. Also, shake well before use.

MONTHLY PICKS - APRIL 2016

JAY'S PICK

As the temperature slowly increases, the time I spend outside also goes up. Using sunscreen everyday is vital for your skin's health in the long run. I am a strong believer in using SPF everyday, as it will save your skin from wrinkles, sunspots and damage in the future. Shiseido's Ultra Sun Protection Lotion for face and body is ideal for sports usage but the consistency is so light and not sticky that I find it's okay for daily use as well! It doesn't leave a white cast and definitely does not have the strong sunscreen smell. It works great under make up and is extremely water resistant (bottle says up to 80 minutes). Wet Force also means that once the sunscreen touches the water, the SPF actually gets stronger and increases (hence the SPF 50+). If you guys are going out for activities this summer, give this sunscreen a try!
Price: $49

**For everyday use try: Shiseido Urban Environment Oil-Free UV Protector SPF 42 for Face

Color: Medium Deep
This volumizing fiber gel "mascara" for your brows claims to be a pomade and eyebrow gel in one product. With my light and sparse Asian eyebrows, I'm always looking for a product that will give me the look of full brows and stays all day. Benefit's Gimme Brow's tiny fibres in the brush add on a lot of volume to my brows and lasts all day! It is seriously a godsend product that I find I can't live without anymore! I generally like to apply it first and fill in the body of my brows, and then go in with an eyebrow pencil to fill in specific parts for a clean shape.

Price: $30

LENA'S PICK

I have very sensitive skin, so I find that a lot of exfoliants are a bit too harsh on my skin. However, Cure Natural Aqua Gel's unique and gentle formula has led me to stick to this exfoliant for over a year now. It has a watery-gel consistency and does not have any beads like a lot of other exfoliants. This exfoliant is frangrance-free, color-free, and preservative-free. Unlike most exfoliants, it doesn't use strong chemicals to remove dead skin.  Instead, it uses activated hydrogen water to gently remove dead skin, leaving the skin extremely smooth. I find that this exfoliant also helps with healing my acne scars!
Exfoliating your skin is an important part of skin care, and I definitely recommend this one!

Dior Eyeshadow Palette

For my everyday eye make up, I usually stick to warm neutral tones. I love how this palette is small and compact, allowing me to throw it into a purse, and yet still have all the shades I need to create my natural eye make-up look. The formula is quite long-lasting and smudge-proof. I use the bottom two shades the most, and the top right as a tearduct highlighter. The pink eyeshadow is nice for when you want a subtle pop of colour!
I'm also in love with the packaging , and how the shadows are laid out. This 5 colour eye shadow palette comes in lots of other colour combinations, so you should definitely check them out!
